GETTING STARTED
DESTINATION IMAGINATION
IS FOR EVERYONE
Public schools, private schools, homeschools, youth groups, youth clubs, etc...
You do not have to be affiliated with a school to create or join a team.
STEP ONE
Purchase a Team Number
& Background Check
A Team Number is a unique membership number permitting a team to present/compete at a local DI event/tournament and be eligible to qualify for Global Finals.
A Team Number can be used for a team of 2-7 participants for the competitive Team Challenges. Teams solving the Early Learning (non-competitive Challenge) may have 2 or more participants.
A Background Check is required for all Team Managers. For more information on DI's Background Check requirement, view this page.
STEP TWO
Create a team
Teams consist of 2-7 children, usually the same grade or two grades per team.
Teams can be friends, neighbors, from public school, private school and homeschool.
Teams are responsible for designing and creating 100% of their Team Challenge solution. Absolutely no interference from non-team members is allowed.
STEP THREE
Schedule Meetings
Meetings can be held at school, during the week, on the weekend, at a team member's home or a local meeting place like a library, church or club.
Each meeting is 1-2 hours long. The team decides!
Be sure to solve at least one Instant Challenge at every meeting.
Work on the Team Challenge solution at every meeting.
