DIsigning Bridges
Kate Collins Middle School
Waynesboro - TM Sharon Wood / TM Susan Jenny

Emmett, Matthew, Alex, Dylan, Greg, and Tyler set their DI objectives early in the year. Adding two friends to the last year's Kate Collin's DI team of four, the new group set the goal of going to GLOBAL Finals at their very first team meeting. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED and they are EXCITED!

The two DIsigning Bridges characters, Zak of Zimbabwe and Cyrus of Ireland, become the recipients of a spell cast by Connor, an Irish Leprechaun. Cyrus and Zak retaliate by casting a curse to turn all leprechauns into short, lazy, hotheaded cluricauns. As the situation worsens and the countries ‘relations deteriorate, weights are placed on the bridge to symbolize separation. Finally, after the bridge breaks, the “good guys” (Conner and Qarl) and the “bad guys” (Cyrus and Zak) realize their similarities in music and art. They become friends and discover that life is about perspective and attitude; sometimes, people are neither bad nor evil, just misunderstood.

TM Sharon Wood observes, "This group of boys were friends before becoming a DI team; now they are like brothers. They express their opinions to one another, occasionally get angry with one another; but continue their love, dedication, and commitment to one another."
